Wayne Vickers
A Whakatane local since his birth in 1976, Wayne found a keen interest in art while attending Whakatane High School.
After leaving school, Wayne took up apprenticeship at his parents butcher shop in Whakatane.
Unused for a number of years, Wayne’s artistic inclinations come to the fore front once again in 2008 when he bought his first set of paints. Since that purchase, Wayne has found himself drawn to the canvas more and more.
An avid tramper and hunter, Wayne spends a lot of time in New Zealand’s back country, finding inspiration for his paintings of primal bush and mountain scenes- His paintings scope and evocative moods capture New Zealand back-country’s changeable weather and lush natural details.
Wayne loves to capture the role light plays on the mist as it moves through bush covered valley’s; he achieves this effect through multiple layers of glazes and oil paints.
A self taught artist, since high school, Wayne has attended a single weekend course with Tim Wilson in 2009. Tim Wilson remains a great influence on Wayne’s work, along with Albert Bierstadt and the Hudson River Art School.
Wayne’s painting talents are formidable. His natural discipline as an artist, his compositions and evocative portrayals of New Zealand’s primal beauty are staggering works of art to behold, especially when you consider Wayne purchased his first barely two years ago.
Wayne’s future as an artist is a bright and exciting one.
